  Final Preparations / Preparing for Mishaps

After evaluating the hazards of your experiment, but before beginning your work, you must anticipate what mishaps might occur and make sure you have the materials on hand to quickly respond to them. Consider the following types of preparations:
Have an appropriately stocked spill kit
Have the OEHS phone number by your telephone to call for assistance
Know the location of the nearest eye wash, safety shower, and fire extinguisher
Ensure that medical services (and potentially appropriate antidotes for a very few toxic materials) are available from a local medical provider
Know how to handle your waste
