Inform co-workers about the hazardous chemicals in use.
Final Preparations / Preparing for Mishaps

Some people may be at higher risk of adverse health effects because of their personal health status. For example, standard precautions and established exposure limits and guidelines may not be sufficient for individuals with allergies or a pregnant worker. Before starting your experiment, make sure that those who will be exposed to the substances you are using have been made aware of their use. Individuals with special health concerns should then discuss theirs with Yale University's Employee Health Physician.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulates a small number of chemicals found in laboratories; additional procedures apply when working with these substances. Check to see if a material you are using is on this list. Contact the OEHS to determine if the way you are using one of these substances will require any additional precautions.
