Particularly Toxic Gases

The gases in the following list are extremely toxic and may require that special engineering controls, not ordinarily found in a laboratory, be installed before these gases can be used.
Prior to ordering one of these gases, a research protocol review form (found on the OEHS web site) must be completed and reviewed/approved by the Office of Environmental Health
and Safety. The following table outlines typical control procedures required for use and storage of particularly hazardous gases:

| Gas Cylinder Size/Type |
Frequency of Use |
Control Procedures |
| Small size cylinders (that can fit inside hood) |
Either periodic or constant (regardless of frequency) |
Use and storage in hood |
| Small size cylinders (that cannot fit inside hood) or Large size cylinders |
Infrequent use |
Leak testing. Air monitoring during use. |
| Large size cylinders |
Regular Use |
Use and store in gas cabinets. Constant air monitoring. Alarm system. |
