Exposure Concerns, Spills, and Accidents

In addition to knowing how to conduct your normal daily activities safely, it is essential that you know what action to take when things go wrong so that you can respond quickly, minimizing the impact of an unfortunate event.

Specifically, you should:
Seek assistance from the Office of Environmental Health and Safety (OEHS) or Employee Health Department if you suspect or know that you have been exposed to, or contaminated by, a hazardous chemical.
Handle small chemical spills yourself, but, if you are uncertain how to proceed, or if the spill is large, warn others and get assistance from OEHS.
Know where the closest emergency eyewash and shower are located and how to use them to decontaminate yourself or a co-worker.
Immediately report signs of fire, such as smoke or flames, by dialing 111 (university phone) or 911 (outside phone). Evacuate your building immediately if the fire alarms sound.
