The Workday - Summary

To protect yourself and those that work with you in the laboratory, you must integrate safety procedures into your daily laboratory activities. One must begin thinking about safety immediately upon entering the laboratory. This safety consideration, and the actions and behaviors that stem from it, should extend throughout the day until the moment you leave the lab. You are incorporating safety into your daily routine when you:
Wear protective clothing and gear appropriate for the tasks performed and substances handled
Transport, label, and store your materials in a manner consistent with their hazardous characteristics
Minimize your exposure to hazardous chemicals by using chemical fume hoods and protective gear when warranted, following the instructions for their use and maintenance |
Follow the special procedures and practices outlined when handling highly toxic materials or regulated materials |
Keep an orderly lab and return it to a safe state before leaving for the day |
