Objective: The Business Management Institute is an educational experience focusing on proper business standards and best business practices for the administrative staff. Guiding principles for the entire educational effort are reflected in the Yale University Standards of Business Conduct that has recently been issued by the Officers. The Standards are woven into the course content for every topic. The BMI curriculum is designed to address the three major operational areas all department managers must deal with: people, finances and facilities.
Description: This certificate series provides an integrated overview of the broad responsibilities and expectations of business managers and their staffs at Yale. This series is designed for individuals in the administrative community who wish to solidify and expand their repertoire of department management skills.
Participants should have a wide scope of contact with the financial and administrative activities of their unit. This is a course designed for employees in strategic decision-making roles who would like to improve their decision-making strategies as well as those on a career path to that role. Admittance is at the discretion of the Master Teachers.
Each session presents relevant topics followed by a team discussion of University business cases illustrating the issue at hand. Concise handouts will be distributed where applicable.
