Coaching for Development

Development is a process focused on the career goals and aspirations of the employee. This course is designed to improve the ability of managers to identify development opportunities and to perform their role as development coach. Through coaching, managers can help employees identify their talents, “sharpen” their skills and create effective development plans.

Pre-work
Think about an employee you would like to coach for development. Come prepared to talk about the employee’s current role, strengths and what you want to coach them on.


COURSE OBJECTIVE(S):
1 Learn to cultivate your employee's capabilities, talents and skills
2 Learn to identify development opportunities important to the employee and to the department
3 Understand the relationship between development and coaching
4 Practice using the “coaching conversation” model to encourage a continuous dialogue
5 Learn how to create effective development plans and provide tools and resources for ongoing development
6 Learn a model for successful coaching sessions
7 Practice asking powerful questions
8 Introduce/review key coaching skills to use in development
9 Explore and overcome your barriers to developing employees
