LYN SIMPSON
1961-2003

The Learning Center mourns the loss of our colleage and friend, Lyn Simpson, who passed away in August.

She remains in our hearts as part of our family.

Lyn Simpson was a half-time Learning Associate in the Learning Center. Her specialty was training Yale University employees on the General Accounting applications. In this role, Lyn taught classes on creating journal entries (JSA) and cash receipts (RIF). As a co-trainer for the Labor Distribution application, she delivered sessions concerning direct and indirect costs charged to federal and other grants. She also conducted clinics and individual training on spreadsheet entry of journal entries and petty cash.

Lyn also worked in General Accounting Services, and was part of the General Accounting User Support team. In this role, she answered questions and advised end-users on the General Accounting (GA) applications and business processes. Lyn tested enhancements to the applications and created documentation on new processes.

Lyn's role as a trainer of business applications was a fusion of her experiences in business and education. Her business experience included a degree in Business Administration from Bryant College. She worked for several retail companies, in positions ranging from part-time sales associate to store manager. In each of these roles, Lyn provided outstanding customer service, and assisted in the professional development of co-workers.

Her involvement in education began with a Masters degree in Elementary Education from American International College. She worked as a substitute teacher for ten years, and during this time worked with students of all ages (pre-kindergarten to high-school seniors), all abilities (special education to honors classes) and all settings (including regular classroom, foreign language, art, music, band, and gym). For four and a half years, she was a tutor in science and English in the Bristol (CT) Young Parents Program, where she worked in a small classroom setting with high-school students who were pregnant or had just had babies.

Lyn was an active volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House of Connecticut, and participated in several fundraising activities. These activities included Trees of Hope, Lights of Love, and the Bank Boston Kids Classic golf and tennis tournament.
