Our Current Initiatives

In 1999-2000, the Learning Center will be pursuing five major initiatives.

  • Competency-Based Feedback Systems

In the past two years, we have provided consulting services on competency based feedback systems to 12 departments. In order to determine the next steps for this work, we will narrow our focus to 2-3 test sites and integrate competencies throughout the HR system in those 2-3 test sites.

  • Enhanced Training Offerings

In 1999-2000, we will triple the number of sessions offered and the number of staff served. We will also be holding learning sessions in a variety of venues such as dialogue groups, roundtables, and other formats. We will be introducing an online registration system, developing a cadre of trainers from throughout the University, and creating a database of courses offered by outside providers.

  • Organizational Assessment

We will undertake a limited organizational assessment of the University, with a focus on customer service. A committee chaired by Joe Mullinix will guide the assessment. The results of the assessment will be used to revise the training curriculum in 2000-2001 and to determine which organizational development initiatives should be undertaken.

  • Public Relations and Education Campaign

In the next year, you will see a new image for the Learning Center. We are working with graphic artists and web site designers to create new materials and get our web site up and running. We will also be doing informal and formal presentations all over campus on our services. The presentations will answer a variety of questions: What is organizational development? What is training? When do you use our services? How do you use our services?

  • The Learning Center Team

In 1999-2000, the staff of the Learning Center will be expanding. We are currently recruiting new organizational development practitioners and new support staff. In order for us to serve you better, we will be working on our own organizational development issues through team building activities, improved infrastructure, and a new feedback system.
